IT IS A KILLER……so please be MORE aware..

IMG_20180625_173320

The above photo was Duki on Monday. It was hot and he did not know what to do with himself……But Yesterday………

OhMyGollyGoodnessGraciousMe……….yesterday was absolutely unbearable…it was like being back in South Africa……30degree’s…I am so not use to this kind of heat anymore.

We started work at 6am to be done by 2pm because of the forecast — a heatwave…..and trust me it was one.

Being responsible pet owners, we actually tied Ducati up on a 15 meter leash, under a tree canopy.., with a big bowl of water..(Which I now realise, after thinking back, he had hardly touched)…..

Now, usually he runs about and we would hose him down every hour or so, but yesterday, seeing as he was ‘restrained from freedom’ as it was seriously too hot to breath..OR run around on a mad one, I did not hose him down regularly, just poured some cold water on his head whenever I had a drink….BIG BIG BIG MISTAKE…….

We finished work at 1.30pm, loaded the van, popped into the local shop for daily necessaties…I stayed in the van with both windows open as we could not leave him in a car in this heat..

Gary went off to do the quick shop…10mins……now usually Duki is sitting up, being nosey as per usual, but yesterday was different…he was slouched over Gary’s seat…..he did drag himself up when Gary got back in, manage to stay sitting up, with his head on Gary’s shoulder…..

Now as responsible pet owner,….NOT EVEN I REALISED SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT….I just thought He was sleeping on Gary’s shoulder as he normally does on the way home.

When we got in he just lay down, in the sun on the gravel, in the front yard….about 10minutes later, I went out with an old cushion, put it in the shade and got him to lay on it.

We were watching football, when I noticed he had not moved, even when I got up to take the photo’s, usually, as soon as he hears the click of a camera he is up…NOT yesterday.

I said to Gary, this is not right..

He was pass out……………………….

I felt him, oh my goodness, he felt like he had been sleeping next to a bonfire….

We got him up, took him to the back garden and hosed him down for 10mins…..The cold water from the tap was actually hot when it ran off him.  We thoroughly drenched him, and when i put the hose on his undercarriage, he actually lifted his leg to make sure ‘they’ got hosed….he must have been really overheated…

We then took him back to the cushion……

Ten minutes later……WHAT A DIFFERENCE………….

Within 15mins of the drenching, he was at the water bowl, which had to be refilled a couple of times over the rest of the evening…..It was then that I had realised he hardly drank anything all day as I had emptied a full bowl at work…..Should have clocked it at work…..I did not…….

Please let this be a lesson for everyone…NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LOVE YOUR PETS AND DO AND WANT THE BEST FOR THEM….SOMETIMES WE DO MAKE MISTAKES…….

Pets cannot tolerate what we can in heat waves…………

Please Be More observant…..check water bowls and moniter how much is being drunk, and if they haven’t been touched ..look into why?? Touch your pet, are they hotter than usual, panting different, more lethargic, deep shallow breathing….??

If you know your pet and habits, you will notice something different…Do not put it off as nothing…I did and it could have ended up much worse………

Keep your pets hosed down, especially if they have a dark coat and make sure they stay hydrated…….

It is not just animals that suffer….

And now please excuse my language for the next couple of seconds……..

This is something that makes my blood boil…..how selfish and inconsiderate is this f**king mother,?? She can be thankful it was not me that came upon her black car with children LOCKED INSIDE….27 degree’s outside…  Where are these womens heads at????

TO THE ABOVE MOTHER…..I WOULD LOVE TO LOCK YOU UP IN A CAR WITH NO MEANS OF ESCAPE…and see how you feel, STUPID COW….

and to Tescos…SHAME ON YOU……with your stupid rules and regulations…………

below is the link to the above story……………….

SO PET OWNERS’, PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE, BE AWARE AND CHECK REGULARLY..

AND TO WOMEN………..DO NOT LEAVE YOUR KIDS IN A CAR IN THIS HEAT, EVEN WITH A WINDOW OPEN……….SELFISH, IRRESPONSIBLE……….

LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME WITH A RESPONSIBLE ADULT IF YOU CANNOT BE ASKED TO TAKE THEM SHOPPING……

Oh, and Duki is fine, we were more aware today…..:)

LESSON LEARNT….

      • Thank you – I will pop over and have a read later! We borrow my wife’s boss’s dog Molly occasionally and she often features on here.
She was constantly having to hose Molly down at work yesterday. Molly does not like it but I think this is because she might accidentally get clean in the process!

    • I might just do a blog of selected seasonal photo’s of him so you can see what a life he has….he goes to work with us 5-6 days a week, Sunday day of ‘chill out’..oh no, he’s at the door as soon as one comes down the stairs, I swear he has ADHD, absolute nutter, he is..

      • He is a very good dog, annoying and under your feet at times, BUT intelligent, clever of funni as fuk. We can actually control him with just hand and finger signs…not a word spoken…but that also depends on his state of excitederdness….if there is such a word..But obiedient and trust worty..has never gone for another dog, even though been grabbed and floored by someone elses, to this day he has not shown any sign of aggression towards anyone…his hackles come up when certain people come near….and I believe, if your dog doesnt trust/like someone, neither should you…..so I trust him with my life…his agression would come out if it meant protecting Gary or myself….how people can mistreat animals and take them for granted, is beyond me…and I have drafted a blog..the week in the life of Duki..at work…..starting pics from monday, so will blog it next weekend….
Thank you so much for following me and taking time to chat, not many people seem to have the time to do it any more. My time is so full of work, yet I make time to catch up, just as you seem to do… 🙂

      • Molly is the same. Totally mad but does not have a nasty bone in her body. She is not remotely interested in other dogs, let alone show any aggression. She hero-worships my wife and goes crazy when she arrives for work.
I helped out at the nursery on sunday and Susan came to fetch me up to the cafe to meet a couple with two wirehaired vizslas they got as rescue dogs after they were found abandoned. They were possibly the two most adorable dogs I have ever met. I just don’t get how people can do that.
I look forward to seeing more of Duki next week😄.
Nice to chat to you too. Yes I am always busy but my WP friends have basically turned my life around in the last year so I do make an effort. Having the smartphone helps as I can catch up during my bus commute in what would otherwise be dead time.
